Battery / Off Grid Solutions
Solar systems have been around for over 35 years. In those early years Solar panels were used to charge batteries used in remote settings where the grid had not yet reached. Ski cabins, lake homes, remote cabins in the mountains, well or water pump applications, the uses were varied. While the power grid now covers most of the country, the need for Battery Backup has expanded, not gone away. The same needs as before along with hundreds more. Early on and up to 5 years ago a customer had to pick, Grid Tied or Battery System.
Today, the technology has evolved in such a way that a customer can start with a Grid Tied system then add a battery backup to help support any critical needs when there are power outages or off grid needs.Traditional Battery based systems have also improved, Inverters are more efficient, charge controllers that communicate with the inverters and balance of system components that improve the performance of every system. With the cost of solar systems dropping over the last 10 years there are times when an Off Grid Solar System can be cheaper than an actual grid hook up. Power companies charge to run lines to homes that are more than a few hundred feet from the street. Those charges can easily be in the multiple 10’s of thousands of $$ dollars depending on the distance and difficulty of the work.
So, with better performing solar products and the emergence of AC Coupling any solar customer can now easily and effectively blend and scale Grid tied technology with Battery application needs. Please keep in mind, while solar is pretty simple, designing a system to exceed your needs whether it be Grid Tied, AC Coupled or Off Grid requires expertise and the designs can have some complexity to them. His Fridge and freezer, general lighting, servers bath and bedroom stay up when the power goes out. -

Off Grid Cabin in South Georgia
This beautiful cabin gets all of its power from a high quality off grid solar system. The local utility wanted an extremely large amount to run lines to this home.
